After five years of renovation, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz is in use again.
Even if you can`t see from the outside, the Staatstheater, which is protected as a hisctoric monument, has changed a lot. In about five years of work, more than 70 percent of this building were newly constructed.
The main task of baierl + demmelhuber was the complex drywall construction of walls and ceiling to guarantee perfect acoustics. On and behind the scenes, from the foyer to the orchestra pit, from the audio direction to the lightning control, from the different sample compartments to the rehearsal stage in the basement, B + D interior construction built up acoustically effective and aesthetic facings. B+D Engineering accomplished the whole scheduling.
The most impressive change is the new orchestra rehearsal room. The B+D project-teams created with unique and difficult geometrics an interior construction at its highest level. The solid shell-shaped structureis a made-to-measure production. In an area of 450 m², no single surface is bigger than 10 m², and all of those single surfaces differ. To reach perfect acoustics, the inner side was decoupled from the outer side with an innovative and vibration removing damping.
This project was a big challenge, especially logistically. In the so called “maze” our teams had to face long distances and contorted hallways. Besides, most works took place in a height of about eight meters, so material and tools had to be transported through scaffoldings. Additionally, because the building lot was located in the city center of Munich, deliveries and administrative restrictions had to be strictly coordinated.
Nevertheless, visitors, employees and the employer are able to enjoy the perfect acoustics in the new theater since October 2017.
