Directly at the Monbijoupark, in the historic center of Berlin, the old Haupttelegraphenamt has been lavishly restored and now attracts its visitors with a diverse offer of culture, scene and gastronomy. The concept combines a hotel, bar, the restaurant "Root", a japanese bakery and sushi bar, event areas and the fitness and wellness area "hub", which will open in spring.
The Telegraphenamt was opened in 1916 and quickly established itself as the communicative heart of Berlin. The city's vibrant postal and communications center housed one of the largest pneumatic tube systems in Europe. The historic building is now a listed building and is literally bursting with substance and character. Stylistically, the interior design weaves together influences from 1920s Berlin and the city's modern, cosmopolitan attitude to life. Original building elements such as historic columns, brick walls and capped ceilings are a visible part of the concept.
In this exciting project, baierl + demmelhuber is involved in the interior works in the hotel rooms and public areas, the "Root" restaurant and the "hub" fitness area. The project included room-building measures and an FFE package that included furniture for 97 hotel rooms and maisonettes.
